[Sure, the rooms are pretty nice, the building's quiet and clean, no one's tried to beat him over the head or anything yet, but that doesn't make Dyme any happier. He has no idea how he got here, why he's here, or where he is. He'd just finally found his happiness; now it's been taken away from him again.]

What the hell is going on? I know, yeah, I got the warm welcome but no offense to anyone, that doesn't tell me jack shit. This kind of thing is called kidnapping.

[Except not really? He has no fucking idea what it is, but he knows that he doesn't like it.]

[Elena regards the screen curiously though her expression remains passive and stoic.]

And how are those also trapped here supposed to help? If we knew of a way back we wouldn't be here.

No. It got destroyed a long time ago.

Maybe not, but it makes me feel better than if I just rolled over and gave up.

Also this phone is like, super old, holy shit.

Here? It's around 2016. For me it was 2014 before I arrived.

[She suspects he's from another time.]

[He needs a lot more time than he actually has to really wrap his head around that.]

[He didn't know how that added up to when the Earth was destroyed, but he didn't think that detail mattered much right now.]

Sooo there's time travel on top of kidnapping?

[Elena exhales a slow breath.]

Time travel and possibly something more? I don't think this is even my home. I've traveled to a lot of places but there are things here I don't know anything about. I can't really explain it without it sounding crazy.

I literally just said I'm from nine hundred years in the future, I don't think whatever you're going to say can sound too crazy.

This world has vampires. [She pauses, chewing over a thought.] Magic. Werewolves. [The last two was like her world though Elena didn't know a lot about magic.]

I don't know what's pulling us here and I don't think anyone here knows either.

[He frowns.]

[Yeah, that did sound a little crazy, but he was trying really hard not to judge. How could he judge when he'd seen aliens.]

[She doesn't like this even though she's come to enjoy some of the people here.]

I admit, I'm not used to it. Other than that, there seem to be odd things that happen. I don't know if it's all connected.

[She wasn't used to people caring about each other? Dyme knew the world could be a pretty shitty place, but people still cared. Well, enough that Dyme wasn't surprised by it, at least.]

What kind of odd things?

A kidnapping is never simple.

[Not that he'd ever been kidnapped before, thankfully, but.]

What else is going on? What makes it bigger?

Things appearing that shouldn't. It happened in the middle of September and then again during the night of Halloween.

Things like what?

[That was super vague and sounded kind of ominous.]

Things from our homes, dangerous things. I can give you a specific but I don't know what the creature was called.

[It'd been from Remy's world.]

At Halloween were were attacked by monsters but at midnight it all disappeared like it wasn't there.

[Simple question, right?]

Oh. [Well, so much for this place not seeming so bad.]

And they just..appeared? [Appeared like they'd appeared? Was it planned or an accident? He didn't know how much of a mistake something like that could be, but he also hadn't seen any of it for himself. And he was pretty glad he hadn't.]

[It was a pretty big city, but he threw in the country too, just to be safe.]

[She can't say she understands it.]

We don't know why.

Never heard of it. [As though this is proving his point.] That on Earth? In the Homelands?

Was anybody hurt?

[If he's asking about Earth, Dyme isn't surprised.]

No. It's on Krele. Earth was destroyed a long time ago. I mean, not completely, I don't think, but. It's a mess.

I think a young girl was. I don't know about the others.

[She remembered smelling blood that night.]

Probably would've heard if anyone was seriously hurt.

[Or killed. Bad news usually traveled fast. In cases like these, no news was sometimes better.]

[What kind of sci-fi bullshit is this?]

Uh huh. And where's that?

I don't know about that.

[Elena frowns.] I think one of the girls that lives here was hurt but I don't know any details. I think they're trying to keep something a secret.

[She isn't sure what, unless they just don't want people to worry.]

Oh.

[That was more concerning. He hadn't considered anyone trying to keep people getting hurt a secret.]

Why would they do that?

I...don't know? I've never been good at geography.

[Was it still geography if it was in space? Someone had probably gone over that in class at some point, but Dyme had always been terrible at paying attention in school.]

Your guess is as good as mine. Most of the people around here keep hours but I haven't taken the time to go and see them.

[She doesn't like going into a conversation without having a clear idea of what she wants out of it. That and avoidance is a skill that Elena has perfected over the years.]

Someone has to have answers for what's going on. Whoever's in charge.

[Someone had to be in charge. People couldn't just be plucked from their homes or wherever they were and brought here without someone overseeing everything that was happening, intentional or not.]

I believe that would be Charles but you'd have to ask him.

[She's met him once.]

[He'd remember that name.]

[Bigby isn't dumb by any means, but he's having troubling following this one. At least they've established it's not in the Homelands.]
