Remy understood a good moping. He'd taken part in a fair share of his own over the years, but it'd been a while since he'd actually spoken to Elena and that needed to change. He wasn't one to push someone into talking about anything they wanted to avoid, but that didn't mean he could't take her out and show her a good time. Besides, the Cajun was getting pretty stir-crazy himself.

The suit he was wearing when he knocked on her door across the hall was a casual one, dark with a red shirt the same color as his eyes, a subtle reminder that the smooth-talking mutant did everything with style.

Her first reaction was to decline but she found it hard with Remy smiling at her. Elena looked down at her clothing before meeting his gaze again. "Should I change? I think I have a dress." She'd gotten it for the gallery opening but she could always break it in.

"If you don't mind waiting a moment." She was a quick dresser, it came with the territory.

Remy shook his head, smiling all the while. "Non, chere. You take yo' time, non? You want me ta step out for a moment?"

Not that he hadn't seen her naked before.

Elena didn't mind one way or the other. He's seen her without clothes on so the awkward shy feeling has vanished. She waved at the door as she stepped back and moved to snap her laptop closed. "In or out but shut the door."

She walked over to her dresser while pulling off her long sleeve shirt and then tank top. She draped them over the back of her hair before removing her pants as well. She pulled a dark blue dress from the closet and slipped it on before grabbing a pair of heeled black boots. After pulling her hair through the neckline she put in the rectangular pendant she always wore.

Elena was a beautiful woman, and watching her change was a privilege he decided to partake of as he stepped further in and closed the door behind him. He watched her movements, graceful and almost elegant, as she dressed, appreciating the view. Gambit never claimed to be a gentleman.

After she was finished, a gentle smile on his lips, he let his gaze pan down to the pendant resting on her chest, then back to her eyes.

"What's de pendant, eh? Been wondering."

Elena didn't mind his stare, she wouldn't have invited him in if she didn't want him to watch her. At his question she frowned, running her pointer along the edge of the pendant.

"It's the memory of another life." The one she had before arriving here. "It's not something I want to forget." It was some small measure of something good and while it was fleeting it was a memory worth holding onto.

Elena reached for her jacket before opening the door and stepping out of her room. "where are we headed?"

He nodded, understanding. In a lot of ways, his action suit, his...costume really, was the exact same thing. It was the suit of a thief, earned during his trial. He'd become a man that day, and the thief would always be a part of him.

He rolled his shoulder in a shrug at her question. He hadn't planned the evening. Honestly, Remy wasn't much of a planner in any regard. That took the fun out of the evenings, and if Remy was anything, he was an adrenaline junkie.

"Maybe we just keep it a surprise. Makes de night more interesting, non?"

Elena laughed, looping her arms around his. "Then I'll defer tonight's entertainment to you." Big parties weren't really her thing but she'd go for Remy and most likely end up enjoying herself in the end. As long as he was there, she didn't care what they did.

"I've been to a few cities. They're all a little different."

Remy nodded, fully understanding. He'd grown up in a city of life, soul, superstition, and passion and had moved to New York only recently full-time. His heart always stayed in New Orleans no matter where he traveled, but New York had managed to steal a piece of that wonder for itself. He hadn't ventured outside too much, uncertain as he was what to expect from a place he wasn't actually a part of, but he was getting anxious locked away like this.

"Oui, and de best way to get to know dem is ta walk 'em, non?"

"Yes."

Elena walked at Remy's side as they exited into the streets. The sun was falling over the city, turning the reflective glass of the windows into fiery paintings. The wold felt as if it was inhaling, only to exhale as the sun dipped below the city limits. The process too seconds though the light in the city never faded or dimed.

Elena inhaled a deep breath before exhaling once more. Her senses were sharp and while it smelled like a city it also smelled like air.

She looked up at Remy with a little bit of a wider smile playing across her lips. "North or south?" If they were going to wander then they might as well start with a direction.

He closed his eyes, turning his head one way then the other, as though letting his instincts make the decision for him. After a moment, he smiled, pointing roughly northeast and opened his eyes, looking over to her.

"How 'bout dat way?"

Elena watched Remy with a curious eye. "That sounds perfect." She kept her arm looped through his as they stepped towards the northeast. Her gaze skimmed the city, taking in the lights and sounds. It was very different being outside and as they continued forward she found herself more thankful for the distraction.

"The city is amazing. I wonder how many people live here." Living normal lives above them.

Remy smiled over to her as they walked. Even if there was nothing serious going on, It was always nice to be in someone's company, to have someone to share a laugh with, or a random thought.

"You never been ta New York before?"

"I was here once but it wasn't for very long. At the time I had a job and I mostly just passed through."

She liked having Remy, it wasn't serious but he was someone that she could tell things that she wouldn't have been able to tell a normal person. He knew about her wolf, more about her past than she cared for and he didn't ask about more. He was alright with things as they were.

"What about you? You sound as if you know the city well."

He looked out over the city, both intimately familiar and alien, and a small smile teased at the corner of his mouth.

"Long story, chere. Ain't many places for mutants in de world now days. Den I met a man wit' a dream ta bridge de gap, an' give mutants a place ta live where dey didn't need ta be afraid fo' bein' different, an' ta learn how ta control dere powers. Professor Charles Xavier."

"That sounds like a good place." She had a home like that but in order to live there she had to become a killer. "I've always just hid what I am." Elena turned to look at him, her blue eyes looking a little unsure.

"In my world those who find out are killed." If Jeremy were to find out anyway.
